What to wear to a dance cardio class

Real talk: Although going to your first dance cardio (or dance fitness) class can feel hella-scary for all sorts of reasons, like ‘Will I be able to do it? Will everyone be a lot younger than me? What if I can’t keep up?!’, there’s one question that we get asked all of the time: What should I wear to a dance fitness class?

We’ve got you covered.

First up, a dance cardio workout isn’t the same vibe as a dance class. While a dance class can sometimes feel like a fashion parade,  it’s more relaxed at workout classes.

Good news, then because you can forget the ‘too-cool-for-school’ pressure and do what feels good for you.

You’ll definitely need these basics:

A good bra - cos the girls like to feel supported ;)
A pair of supportive shoes that are designed for cross-training and will absorb impact.
Clothing that you can move in, and that is breathable and comfy.

Here’s what we like to wear to workout in a dance fitness class like CORIO Dance

LOOK #1 - Slouchy Sweats

Not everyone wants to go skin-tight and that’s great because a dance fitness class is the perfect place to pull on slouchy tees and loose pants that let everything move with you.

Forget 1990’s style cargo pants though, this look is more about off-the-shoulder sweaters and loose fitting pants with an elastic ankle (so you don’t trip up!).

Just remember to layer so that you’ve got options when things get hot!

LOOK #2 - On-Trend Tees

Grab a pair of leggings and unleash your inner dance cardio diva by throwing on a loose tee or tank on top.

Whether it’s short or long, a simple tee over a crop top is a great look for dance fitness class.

At CORIO Dance, we love monochrome, (because everything goes with everything - it’s capsule, right?!),  but let your personality shine! If you love colors, get bright, if you love prints, go wild!

LOOK #3 - Skin-Tight Style

It’s true that you don’t see tight fitting clothes much in a commercial dance class, but this look is on-trend in dance fitness classes, thanks to the boutique fitness movement.

(So yeah, now you can dance in yoga pants and it’s fine. Yay!)

We love crop tops with detail on the back, like a mesh, or unusual strap - probably because as a dance fitness instructor, people are always looking at our back - but it’s a great way to make a simple outfit look chic.

You’ll also want to take a water bottle and towel (if your studio doesn’t have them) because trust us, you’re going to sweat - but now, you can do it in style.
